Briefly I would like to tell you about my artistic process. This is tricky as I have a day job to pay the bills and any time I can get to work on my paintings is usually from September through to February. I sometimes talk to students at Todmorden Community College, and I spent nearly a whole year working in the College as a mature student in 2005. Now that was fun.

I receive commissions from my patrons and through the Federation of British Artists. I regularly travel to the house/studio that my wife and I share in Haripal, West Bengal to depict the many Hindu temples in the vicinity. I also live in a particularly beautiful part of the UK with inspirational views from my house.

Art Education

1967 -1969 Burnley College of Art Foundation Course
1969 -1972 Maidstone College of Art Maidstone Kent
1972 -1975 Royal Academy Schools Postgraduate London SW1
1975 -1976 Postgraduate qualification in teaching John Dalton Manchester Polytechnic

Taught in Manchester Schools for the next three years. Came back to London to do mural paintings for Camden Council and to promote my paintings leading to a one man show which lasted for twelve months at a small gallery now defunct in West Hampstead London NW6. In the main I do paintings of transport subjects drawn from an enormous archive of different media including works from negatives bequeathed to me from my grandfather who was interested in photography from his work between the wars on the railway.

Artist Statement:

I paint in acrylic and I use scraping back effects on panel and stretch linen, palimpsest-like. I usually work on two or three works at a time and I work from elderly archive monochrome negatives. I am able to originate an accurate approximation of the colour. I also draw from life. I usually prepare a painstakingly careful drawing first before the colour goes on.

Exhibitions

In the 80s regularly shown with the Fulham Society of Artists, Chelsea Society of Artists at the old Baths, Chelsea and shows at Piers Feetham Gallery, Fulham Road and Greg Guest̛̛s gallery further down the Fulham Road. Now mostly working on private commissions and work to adorn, for want of a better word̛̛ the walls of the family̛̛s speculative property ventures in France, work for the London Lighthouse and the Midland Railway Trust at Butterly Derbyshire.

Work can be found in private collections in France, West Bengal India, Santa Monica, California and from next year Sydney, Australia. The French collections are in Verrieres D̛̛Haut Buisson and Meung Sur Loire.
