It was with immense sadness that the RBA recorded the passing of one of the society's most respected and much loved members, Andy Wood.
I have had the great honour, and genuine pleasure of knowing Andy since the eighties when we were both elected as members of the RBA.
Andy was a kind and cheerful man with a fine sense of humour, a truly generous spirit who was a constant support to his fellow artists. It was always a pleasure to meet with Andy and his infectious smile would never fail to light up the room. I count myself as being fortunate to have had Andy at my side as we sat through many a long and ponderous AGM.
His paintings were always interesting and thought provoking. He had a remarkable talent for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary, be this the grandeur of a simple concrete underpass or the scintillating vibrancy of a beloved deckchair.
Andy, your many friends and colleagues in the RBA will miss you, but what we keep in our memories shall be ours for ever.
